Ultherapy®
As we age, our skin and the tissues beneath the surface begin to loosen and sag, aging our appearance and making us look tired and older than we truly are. That is because the natural production of collagen and elastin in our bodies begins to slow down, so the structure and youthful firmness of the skin is compromised. At OHMI Medical Group, we offer Ultherapy® for the treatment of these natural signs of aging. Ultherapy® is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared procedure that uses ultrasound technology and the body’s natural healing response to lift, tone, and tighten loose skin on the face, neck, and chest without any downtime.
Candidates
Ideal candidates for Ultherapy® are women and men in their 30s or older who are healthy and experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity as well as lines and wrinkles on the face, neck, and chest. This treatment is a great alternative to undergoing surgery, and Ultherapy® can also be used to help maintain the results of a previous cosmetic surgery. A thorough consultation will determine if you are a candidate for Ultherapy®.
Procedure
During your Ultherapy® treatment session, an ultrasound gel will be applied to the treatment area(s), and the handpiece will be pressed to the skin. You may feel some warmth and tingling, but these sensations will dissipate once the treatment is finished.
The Ultherapy® handpiece is passed over the skin using ultrasound energy to target the tissues underneath your skin. The ultrasound waves heat the tissues, causing them to contract, which then stimulates the body’s natural healing response to produce new collagen. As the new collagen forms, the skin is gradually lifted and tightened.
Depending on the size of the treatment area, the Ultherapy® procedure typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes to complete, and it can treat both the superficial layers and the deep foundational layers of the skin that need lifting and tightening without causing damage to the outer layers of skin. Most patients only require one session to see results, but this will vary depending on the extent of correction needed for your particular aesthetic goals.
Recovery
Some patients may look flushed after their treatment session, and other side effects may include swelling, bruising, or skin sensitivity. All of these side effects are mild and should subside shortly after the procedure. There is no downtime associated with Ultherapy®. Patients can return to their normal activities as soon as their treatment is over.
Results
Slight results may be seen immediately after treatment; however, final results may take as long as six months to appear. Ultherapy® patients have reported a fresh, youthful appearance lasting for one year after their treatment. Although Ultherapy® cannot stop the natural aging process, touch-up treatment sessions can help maintain results of firmer, tighter, wrinkle-free skin. Proper sun protection and living a healthy lifestyle will also help to prolong the results that Ultherapy® provides.
